Name Numerology Calculator

Your naamank is your name number, calculated from the letters of your name.

Free, instant, and nothing is stored. The maths runs in your browser.

Use the spelling people use for you day to day. The letters are what get scored, so spelling changes the answer.

About the name number

Name numerology assigns a number to each letter and reduces the total to a single digit. Unlike your birth numbers, your name number can change, which is why some people adjust the spelling of their name after a reading.

Two systems are in common use and they give different answers. The Chaldean system assigns values 1 to 8 and never uses 9, which it treats as sacred. The Pythagorean system runs A=1 through Z=8 in a simple repeating cycle and does use 9. Vedic practice in India generally follows Chaldean; this calculator shows both so you can compare.

The same letters also produce two further numbers: the vowels alone give your soul urge (what you want), and the consonants alone give your personality (how you come across).

Name number, questions people ask

Should I use Chaldean or Pythagorean?
Chaldean is the older system and the one generally used in Vedic numerology in India. Pythagorean is more common in Western readings. If you are working within an Indian tradition, use the Chaldean result.
Which name should I enter, full name or nickname?
Enter the name you are actually called by day to day, since that is the name in active use. Many numerologists also check the full legal name separately, because the two can differ meaningfully.
Why is there no 9 in the Chaldean system?
Chaldean numerology treats 9 as sacred and does not assign it to any letter. It can still appear as a final reduced total, it just never comes from a single letter.
Can I enter a name in Hindi?
Not yet, the letter values are defined for the Latin alphabet, so type your name in English letters. Accented characters are handled automatically.
