About the mulank

Mulank, also called the root number or psychic number, comes from the day of the month you were born and nothing else. Someone born on the 12th of any month, in any year, has a mulank of 3 (1 + 2).

In Vedic numerology the mulank describes how you see yourself and how you instinctively act, your temperament rather than your destiny. It is the number that shows up most clearly in day-to-day behaviour, which is why it is usually the first number a numerologist looks at.

It is often confused with bhagyank, the destiny number, which uses your full date of birth instead. The two are different numbers with different meanings, and most people have two different values.

Does the time of birth affect my mulank?
No. Mulank depends only on the calendar day you were born. Time of birth matters for a kundli (birth chart), not for numerology.
What if my mulank is 11 or 22?
In Vedic numerology every number reduces to 1 through 9, so 11 becomes 2 and 22 becomes 4. Western numerology treats 11 and 22 as master numbers; this calculator shows both the pre-reduction sum and the final reduced digit.
Is the mulank calculator accurate?
